Age resistance The life of paper can be controlled by the use of appropriate raw materials
and additives. To a great extent, however, it depends on the chemical and physical factors that affect
the paper when it is used (e.g. light, air, heat, moisture).

Ash content Along with its organic constituents, such as fibres and starches, paper also contains so-called fillers. These are generally kaolin and carbonates. The percentage of fillers contained can be determined by burning the paper and analysing the resultant ash.
