Nip-press
The nip press is used to remove water from the paper web. The nip pressure on the press is not developed with a rotating roll and opposed roll, instead a stationary nip device presses against the rotating roll. It order for this to operate, a plastic sheathe rotates around the nip device. A film of oil is maintained between nip device and plastic sheathe for lubrication. As in conventional presses, the water pressed out of the web of paper it removed on a continuous felt. The construction of the nip device makes the nip gap 20 times longer than in the case of a conventional press. The dry content of the press is increased by some 5% to 48-50%, without the specific pressure exerted on the paper increasing. The need for thermal drying is thus correspondingly reduced. This form of water removal enables paper volume to be retained.
