Film press
The film press is a machine for treating the surface of the paper web in the paper machine. Unlike a size press, in which the web passes through an open flood basin, a film is created by the metering bars on the applicator rolls which coat the web in the nip. It is possible for different coatings to be applied to the two sides of the paper. A film press is suitable for both surface sizing and for applying pigmented coatings.

Fine paper
In its broadest sense, all papers that are used for the "communication of ideas" in print and in writing. As opposed to packing paper, cardboard, technical paper, sanitary paper. In its more precise use, the wide range of top-quality, woodfree natural papers sometimes with a rag content for demanding applications.
Finishing
After its production, our paper is subject to further processing stages = finishing, e.g. in the form of cutting, stacking in reams, etc.
Flatness
Highly desirable property of paper, which can however be negatively affected by manufacturing shortcomings (varying drawing pressures, different drying speeds for top and bottom sides) and during storage (fluctuations in atmospheric conditions).
Format differences
There can be fluctuations in both length and width in paper stacks. The reason for this is that trimming is not 100% accurate. According to the general conditions of business applicable in the paper industry, these differences must lie within clearly defined tolerances.
Format
Term used to describe the size of a sheet of paper, in which both length and width are quoted, e.g. 61 x 86 cm. The first figure refers to the web width.
