Offset paper
Close collaboration between printers and paper manufacturers in recent years has led to a number of offset papers and cards in uncoated and coated forms, both containing wood and woodfree, matt and glazed, machine-glazed, calendered and embossed. All are hallmarked by especially good surface stability and dimensional stability and chemical neutrality in respect of the interaction between fountain moisture and powerful printing ink during offset printing.
Opacity
The property of paper to resist the transmission of light. This is extremely important if both sides of a sheet of paper are to be printed. Opacity can be increased by the addition to the paper pulp of more mechanical pulp or fillers such as kaolin, carbonates, talcum powder or titanium dioxide. These fillers also produce a smother surface.
Optical brightener
Fluorescent agents that are added to the paper pulp or coating. By transforming UV light into visible blue light, they make the paper appear whiter in daylight.
